Pirates crown young stars at awards night

Friday 14 October 2022 saw over 100 players, coaches, family and friends gather together at GHA Rugby Club in Giffnock to celebrate the successes of the East Kilbride Pirates U16 contact team, East Kilbride Pirates U19 contact team, Hamilton Buccaneers U16 contact team and the Pirates and Buccaneers U11 and U14 flag teams.

Hosted by MC for the evening Matt Davies, 25 awards were handed out by the coaching staff from across the teams, recognising players on both sides of the ball and culminating in player of the year awards for each team to recognise their MVPs – their most valuable players.

The evening was the last time our Hamilton Buccaneers U16s will receive awards – as the club has decided to merge both of our U16s teams together into a single stronger and most sustainable squad  for the 2023 season and beyond. The new combined team will be under the East Kilbride Pirates banner, but will be based in Hamilton and will be headed up by Coach Jim Dorman. Outgoing Hamilton Buccaneers U16 coach Tam McKendrick steps up to take over as U19 Head Coach – replacing Nicky Smith, who is stepping away from football for the time being to focus on work commitments. The Hamilton Buccaneers name will continue on, however, as our U11 and U14 flag teams will continue under this identity.
