Junior camp 2019
Pre-camp
It’s going to be an intensive two days. Please make sure on the days running up to camp you sleep well, eat well and hydrate well!
Location
The training camp is at Strathallan School, Forgandenny, Perth, PH2 9EG. Strathallan is an independent school with great facilities. We successfully held senior and junior camps there over the last four years.
Travelling to camp
We are putting on a bus with pickups in East Kilbride and Hamilton with bus company Stuart’s of Carluke. For those travelling on the bus to camp, pick up points are as follows:
- Westwood Shops in East Kilbride at 10.20am
- Hamilton Palace Sports Ground car park at 10.50am
DO NOT be late or the bus may leave without you. If you have any problems please contact Coach Jason Milligan who will be on the bus from EK as soon as possible.
If you’re making your own way, visit the directions and interactive map for location information. Make sure you arrive no later than 11.45am to give you time to unpack and get ready.
Any cars dropping off should park in the visitors car park which is signposted. Please do NOT park on any of the roadways on the campus. If you’re unsure, ask.
If parking overnight
If you’re bringing your own car, please park in the visitors car park and if this is full, there is another car park by the synthetic pitches. All cars MUST clearly display a parking pass. Please print the Car Pass – EK Pirates 23-24 March 2019 and put your name and reg number on it and make sure it’s visible on your dashboard.
Saturday lunch
Bring a packed lunch for Saturday to eat while travelling or on arrival.
Timings
We’ll be starting on Saturday with check in and an intro meeting, and then finishing around 6.30pm on Sunday after dinner, and exiting the facility no later than 6.45pm.
Read the Camp Schedule for more information.
Arrival and rooms
Go directly to Ruthven boarding house – check which room you’re in on the list below.
Rooms are single and contain a sink, and there are shared toilet and shower facilities on each floor and in the changing rooms on the ground floor. The tap water in all the rooms is drinkable. Please bring an extra pillow if you require one.
The boarding house has communal social areas with sofa, television, games consoles, pool table etc. Most of these things have been bought by the students who live here in term time – so treat them accordingly. All damages must be paid for.
Meals
Included are dinner on Saturday and breakfast, lunch and dinner on Sunday. For breakfast, lunch and dinner you’ll be able to choose from a range of options, canteen style. If you have any dietary requirements that you’ve not noted on the camp booking forms, please advise Amanda in advance.
A ‘brew room’ with sink, kettle, fridge and microwave is also available on each floor of the boarding house, and water in the bedroom sink taps is drinkable.
Valuables
Please note, the boarding house will be locked, but individual rooms DO NOT lock. Please do not bring valuables (tablets, laptops, money, watches) or do so at your own risk.
Wifi and mobile phones
Please note, there will be no wifi available as we will need to use the full available bandwith for Hudl. There is good signal coverage for O2 and Vodafone 4G phones, but other networks are largely restricted to 2g inside and out. We ask that you keep your mobile usage to break times only – if you have a special reason to need to check your phone regularly, advise your coach.
Getting around
Strathallan has a large campus but please only stay within the areas we’ll be using. Here’s a map of facilities with our areas circled in red.
Practice surface
We will be training on a mix of grass and astro so bring suitable footwear for both. Astro shoes or trainers MUST be worn on the synthetic surfaces – there will be no exceptions.
Please bring…
As well as your usual full practice kit (inlcuding lowers), things you should bring include:
– Soap/shower gel/shampoo as these aren’t provided
– Towels
– Extra pillows if you want any – only one will be provided in your room
– Any additional snacks / soft drinks you want – there are ‘brew rooms’ with kettles, microwave and fridge on each floor.
– A copy of your playbook
– Notepad and pen for meetings
– Plenty of clothes – there are five practices and it may also rain. You won’t want to wear the same stuff for it all.
– Plenty of spare socks. Consider double-socking for practice to avoid blisters
– Flip-flops for wearing for down time
– Tape / underwrap if you want taping – do not go raiding the first aid bag for this!
– Any medicines / inhalers etc you need for the weekend
– Chargers for any devices you do bring
Your behaviour
There will be other guests staying at Strathallan and you may be sharing the dining hall with them, so please keep this in mind at all times – especially with noise when moving between buildings and with bad language if there are other guests or staff around. Do not drop chewing gum, do not leave kit lying about and remember to pick up litter in the boarding house!
Emergency contact
Players are asked to not take mobile phones to practice or meetings. If a parent needs to reach a player urgently, they should contact Club Chair Amanda McDonald on 07920 252604, or you can email amanda@piratesfootball.co.uk as email will be checked regularly.
Going home
If you’re being collected, parents should aim to arrive for 6.45pm and meet you at Ruthven House. The bus back will depart approximately 6.45pm. Players travelling by bus will be dropped off at Hamilton Palace Sports Ground car park at approximately 8.00pm, and at East Kilbride Westwood Shops at approximately 8.20pm. Please make sure you phone or text your parents to confirm arrival time once we’re under way.
